Dutch Apple Pie

I had plenty of apples from the weekly veggie basket and they were starting to turn a bit bad. It was about time to find recipe where I could put to use as many as I could.
The result: an apple pie.

I found this recipe and I followed it step by step. I would probably reduce the quantity of apples by 1 cup, as it was difficult to fill them in. Check out the picture below and you’ll see what I mean. Anyhow, it turn out super good, served with some extra vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients

1 pie crust shell
5 cups peeled cored apples (cubes)
1 tbsp lemon juice
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
3 tbsp flour
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg

Topping
3/4 cup flour
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup butter, room temperature

vanilla ice cream to serve

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 375 F.

In a large bowl, mix lemon juice, both sugars, flour, cinnamon and nutmeg. Add the apples and stir until are covered evenly. Pile into the pie crust.

Topping
In a medium bowl, mix flour, both sugars and butter using a fork, until coarsely crumbled. Sprinkle evenly over apples.

Bake at 375 for 50 minutes. Serve hot with ice cream.

Bon appétit.
